WHAT IS DAILY FANTASY SPORTS?
In daily fantasy sports, you build a team of athletes from a particular sports league that competes against other similarly-selected teams and earn points based on the actual statistical performance of the athletes in real-world sporting events. Daily fantasy sports are a more exciting variation of traditional season-long fantasy sports and are conducted over short periods, such as a week or single day of sporting events, as opposed to those that are played for an entire season. You are not bound to your fantasy team for the whole season, and you can start over with a whole new group of athletes every day or week.
Unlike traditional fantasy sports, where your teams stay together over the course of an entire season, daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests allow you to enter a new team of 5-10 athletes in daily or weekly contests, for cash prizes. You can start over with a whole new group of players, teams, and tactics every day.
Draftstars is a daily fantasy sports (DFS) platform where players can put all their skill and knowledge of sport to the ultimate test.
Draftstars has a wide variety of sports and contest types to choose from, launching with the AFL and many more sports to follow shortly. Pick your preferred sport and contest from the Draftstars lobby and draft your ultimate fantasy team in minutes. Our contests allow you to choose athletes from a full round of matches (i.e. weekend), or across a single day, or in some cases an individual match.
Once you’ve finalised your team, you can enter it into free or paid contests against mates or the wider Draftstars community to win real cash prizes.
Click here full details on our contest types, team selection, scoring and prize allocation.
As the official daily fantasy (DFS) partner of the AFL, and with the world’s most advanced DFS platform, Draftstars provides you with a digital sporting experience that transfers all the grit, intensity, and glory from the professional sporting field.
Draftstars offers the best live fantasy experiences in Australia. As a Draftstars player, you receive real-time updates for all your athletes, including injuries and substitutions. You can also compare your performance against your competitors with the Draftstars live leaderboard. See your opponents projected scores and remaining game time, as all the real-life action unfolds.
Draftstars has all the post-match analysis and historical player stats, so you can make the most informed drafting decisions.
Draftstars daily and weekly contests also have the biggest DFS cash prizes in the country.

HOW MUCH DO CONTESTS COST?
Draftstars offers a wide variety of real-money contests, with buy-ins ranging from $0 (free rolls) to $1,000. Prizes vary depending on the number of entrants and the rules for that contest. Click on a contest and the contest info window will pop-up with details on the payouts for that specific contest. In the event of a tie, the prize will be divided between the two (or more) top scoring entrants.
WHEN DO FUNDS GET CREDITED TO MY ACCOUNT FROM A CONTEST I’VE WON?
We consider contests completed after we receive all final statistics confirmation from our official statistics provider for the relevant real-life sporting matches. Once this occurs, funds will be credited to the winning accounts.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS A PAYOUT ADJUSTMENT?
Occasionally, payouts may need to be adjusted due to a mistake in the contest creation. In these instances, we will always use the payout structure related to the icon shown in the lobby. For example, if a contest has a Double-up icon in the lobby but lists payouts in a different structure, payouts will be adjusted to reflect the proper Double-up payout after the contest is complete.

Contest, Rules and Game Feature FAQs
WHAT TYPES OF CONTESTS ARE OFFERED AT DRAFTSTARS?
At Draftstars we have several different contest formats available:
These contests require a specified number of entrants to run. If the contest doesn’t completely fill by the scheduled start time, we’ll cancel the contest and refund all entry fees to the users’ accounts. Standard contests are run with different sizes from 2 (Head-to-Head) up to many thousands.
We guarantee the prize pool for these featured contests, and we’ll start the contest on-schedule and pay it out in full (as stated in the contest information page) regardless of the number of entrants. For example, imagine a Draftstars contest with 2000 available spots and payouts to 150th place. If there are only 500 spots filled, then Draftstars will still payout to 150th place and prizes will not be reduced.
Turbo contests involve selecting a single player from each of the tiers shown (6 for AFL).
These contests require a specified number of entrants to run. Once enough entrants register, the draft will begin. Players are assigned a draft pick and select their players in sequential order until all teams are filled. Athletes can only be chosen once per Live Draft, so you cannot pick the same Athletes as other entrants.
Double Up contests split the resulting prize pool among the top 45% of the finishers, with a Prize of Double the entry fee.
Triple Up contests split the resulting prize pool among the top 30% of the finishers, with a Prize of Triple the entry fee.
Modified Salary Cap
Modified Salary Cap contests offer different starting salary amounts for selecting line-ups. The salary cap for these contests may be more or less than the cap in a standard Draftstars contests.
WHEN DO CONTESTS GET CANCELLED OR VOIDED?
If a contest doesn’t fill with enough entrants, we’ll cancel the contest and the entry fee will be refunded to players’ accounts. We don’t want to start a contest unless we can pay out the prize pool that all the players expected when they signed up. Our Guaranteed Contests are the exception.
HOW MANY SIMULTANEOUS CONTESTS CAN I ENTER ON DRAFTSTARS?
We place no limit on the number of contest an account holder can enter at Draftstars, as long as you’ve got the available funds. We do restrict the number of entries customers can enter into an individual contest in order to attempt to give all our customers a fair chance at winning prizes.
WHAT’S A MULTI-ENTRY CONTEST?
In multi-entry contests, players have the option of entering a contest more than once and submitting multiple lineups. Each extra lineup costs an additional entry fee and is scored as a separate entry.
CAN A LINEUP BE IMPORTED INTO MULTIPLE CONTESTS?
Simply click the “Import Lineup’ button to see the existing lineups you have available to import into your current contest.
CAN A PLAYER VIEW THEIR DRAFTSTARS HISTORY?
All of your play history, results, past rosters and opponents are available under the “My Games’ link next to your account balance.
CAN I EDIT A LINEUP I’VE ALREADY SUBMITTED?
Lineups remain open for editing until the start of the first real-life sporting event for that particular contest.
ARE OPPONENTS’ LINEUPS AVAILABLE FOR VIEW?
No. Players’ lineups always remain hidden until after the contest begins, in order to ensure the integrity of the contest.
WHAT ARE THE SUBS ON LIVE DRAFTS?
Players drafted in the SUB spots are eligible to be swapped with other players from your Lineup up until the start of the contest (The start of the contest occurs with the first included match). The Lineup score for Live Draft games does not include the SUB score.
The SUB is position specific (a forward can only be subbed for another forward), however dual position players can be subbed in either of the positions.
HOW DOES AUTODRAFT WORK FOR LIVE DRAFTS?
The Autodraft will automatically select the highest ranked available player, without an injury icon, for a position you don’t have filled. All autodraft picks are final including picks made due to timeouts or Internet connection issues.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE TIMER REACHES ZERO BEFORE I MAKE A PICK IN LIVE DRAFTS?
Anytime the timer reaches zero, autodraft will be initiated. Please see the section on autodraft for details. Please note, it is the responsibility of a user to make their pick within the allotted time.
HOW ARE PLAYERS WHO HAVE BYE WEEKS OR INJURIES LISTED?
We list players that are probable to participate and omit players who may be on a bye week. We also mark players who may be injured with a “+’ icon, which you can roll over for a brief status update.
Unfortunately, coaches and sports teams don’t always make our job easy. We do our best for you, but Draftstars can’t guarantee that a player will start or play, even if they’re listed in the draft screen. If you notice a mistake in a player’s injury status, please report it by submitting a notice to firstname.lastname@example.org
HOW DO YOU DETERMINE A PLAYER’S STATUS?
Our player availability icons are supplied through our statistics feed. While they’re accurate most of the time, we can’t guarantee 100% accuracy.
Please make sure to check player notes within a player profile for further information. You’re always welcome to consult a third party source for injury updates as well.
HOW MANY PLAYERS FROM THE SAME TEAM CAN I DRAFT TO MY TEAM?
It depends on the sport and the contest. The current AFL rules are that you must pick players from at least 2 x teams in separate matches. For example, you can pick 8 x Collingwood players from a Collingwood vs. Essendon match, and 1 x Gold Coast player from a Gold Coast vs. Western Bulldogs match to complete your 9-man team.
We are currently working on a single match option, where you can pick players from 2 x teams in the one match.
CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION ON PLAYERS I’M CONSIDERING DRAFTING?
Click the name of any listed player and a pop-up window will appear. This window will include their recent fantasy scores, more in-depth statistics, injury updates and news about the player.
HOW IS THE SALARY CAP DETERMINED FOR EACH PLAYER?
Each player’s salary is calculated and regularly updated using a formula that factors in their past performances and future projections.
WHAT HAPPENS IF ANY OF THE SPORTING EVENTS ARE POSTPONED OR CANCELLED?
If it happens that a sporting event is cancelled or postponed prior to the start of the event, players from those matches will not contribute any fantasy points to their owners’ line-ups. If a match is delayed, postponed mid-match or suspended, any stats accumulated before the match was delayed, postponed or suspended that day will count.
HOW ARE SCORING REVISIONS HANDLED?
We receive a final statistics confirmation from our stats provider. This final statistics file will determine the final fantasy score in a Draftstars contest.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENT OF A TIED SCORE?
In the event of a tie, the prizes are shared equally between the tied teams. In heads-up bracket tournaments, tie-breakers will be the single highest scoring player on the team (or the second highest scoring player, if needed).
The rules for a tie in a bracket contest are as follows:
- The highest individual scoring player of the contest
- If the highest scoring player is the same, then it is the highest scoring unique player
- If the highest scoring unique players for each team score the same amount, then the match will be decided by a random draw.
- In the event of identical rosters (or empty rosters), the winner will be decided by random draw.
- If a tie occurs in a money round, the prize money will be split equally. The advancing team will be determined by rules 1-4.
In the case of a tie in a Qualifier contest, the value of the seat will be split evenly between the tied players. However, this will not apply to contests paying out direct entry to the Big League Blast. If players tie, they will be placed in a playoff contest to decide the winner of the seat.
In the case of a championship or other contest where there are no available days for a playoff contest to be conducted the rules for a tie in a bracket contest will take effect.
HOW DOES A TARGET CONTEST WORK? (COMING SOON)
Each day, players must meet or exceed the stated target score to win the contest. All players that hit this fantasy score will split the prize pool equally. If no player achieves a qualifying score, no players will receive any payout and the unclaimed prize pool will be added to a future target contest (We never pocket unpaid prize money from these contests). Players who entered the first contest will not necessarily be guaranteed a spot in this future contest.
WILL I EVER PLAY MYSELF IN A BRACKET CONTESTS?
If you have 4 or less entries you will never play yourself in the 1st round. You will be automatically placed into 4 separate quadrants and will only potentially play yourself in the quarter finals.
If you have more than 5 entries they will be randomized completely and there is a chance you will play yourself in the 1st or subsequent rounds.
HOW ARE BYES DETERMINED FOR BRACKET CONTESTS?
Completely random, luck of the draw.
ARE EMPLOYEES OF DRAFTSTARS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN REAL MONEY CONTESTS ON DRAFTSTARS?
Draftstars employees are not allowed to participate in real money tournaments on the Draftstars site.
